Ordinal Numbers | Números Ordinales

Tras ver los números cardinales vamos a pasar a ver los números ordinales, que como su mismo nombre indica hacen referencia a un orden.

En inglés, como en español, la abreviatura de los números ordinales se forma poniendo el número en cifra, seguido de las dos últimas letras de la palabra en forma escrita:

• 1st. - first
• 2nd - second
• 3rd - third 
• 30th - thirtieth

Los números ordinales que no contienen al final de la cifra un 1, 2 o 3 se forman añadiendo th al número cardinal:

• Decimocuarto: 14 (Fourteen) - 14th (Fourteenth) 
• Trigésimo: 30 (thirty) - 30th (thirtieth)

En el caso de números ordinales compuestos, sólo la última cifra se escribe en forma de número ordinal.

Así:

• 6,210th - Six thousand, two hundred and tenth.
• 321 - Three hundred and twenty-first.

Cuando hablamos de reyes o reinas, los numeros ordinales se escriben en forma de números romanos:

• Isabel II - Isabel the Second
• Henry VIII - Henry the Eighth
